Weekly Photo Challenge: Fall

Fall Seeds
To me fall means wilted flowers and emerging seeds, which bring fabulous colors and textures as they gear up for the next generation of blooms. This is one of my favs from last fall (it’s not quite fall yet here, so I pulled from the archives).

  1. The dark background makes this for me.

Just in case you didn’t get the answer to “what are conkers” that you asked on another blog. Conkers is a traditional children’s game played using the seeds/nuts of horse-chestnut trees – the name ‘conker’ is also applied to the seed and to the tree itself. The game is played by two players, each with a conker threaded onto a piece of string: they take turns striking each other’s conker until one breaks.

Although it is described as a childrens game, there are competitions in the UK each year in which adults participate

You can read a wikipedia article here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conkers

    1. Ah ha! That explains why I haven’t heard of conkers. I haven’t spent enough time in the UK! 😉 I thought it was a sort of sea mussel (“conch”), but it didn’t look like mussels. Thank you for the explanation!
